Originally descended from the horses of Spanish explorers, these hardy, free-roaming horses can still be found in the American west, where they live in small herds or bands. Over the centuries, their bloodlines have mixed with many other breeds, creating greater genetic diversity and introducing many coat colors and patterns to these living symbols of the West.
