Which brush to choose, which brush to choose—sometimes this basic makeup question can be strangely overwhelming. I got a gorgeous roll of brushes recently but found myself wasting too much time just staring at all the choices, so I never use it! Let's start by addressing an area in which the options aren't too numerous: blush brushes. Shown here are three shapes of blush brush preferred by celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose to achieve very different effects, even when using the same cheek color. They are, from left to right: 1. Small and dense This little Nars brush would be the ideal pick when you want to create a bold pop of color on your cheeks. 2. Medium and domed The bristles of this Lancome brush fan out to distribute blush in a way that looks rosy but soft, not overly bright. 3. Angled Go for a fluffy angled brush, like this MAC one (actually a powder brush) when you prefer diffused, super-believable cheek color. "You can swirl it on the cheeks and up the temples without the color being too intense," Barose says. As for choosing a powder blush, "go for brighter shades that can be blended down,"
